Digital Literacy, Well-Being & Consciousness

Picture

Digital wellbeing is a term used to describe the impact of technologies and digital services on people's mental, physical, social and emotional health. Nurturing emotional well-being, consciousness, digital skills, digital literacy and resilience in teachers and students is essential therefore to ensure they become confident, empathetic, proactive and productive citizens. Education systems around the world should therefore take a holistic and integrative approach towards digital literacy, consciousness and well-being, taking into account factors that can negatively affect consciousness, well-being, equity of opportunity, literacy, information, disadvantage, and inclusion in online and offline spaces.

This CPD experience will explore in detail the daily reality of Digital Literacy Consciousness and Wellbeing in schools and explore strategies, pathways and frameworks to empower self and the wider school-communities in sustainable ways.

Artificial Intelligence and 21 Century Schools

Picture
With Artificial Intelligence (AI) making rapid inroads into the global education space, today’s teachers and students are as much in awe of AI as they are in general, keen on harnessing AI to enhance their personalised and collective understanding , and teaching and learning experiences. Before we acknowledge and accept AI as an 'invisible', 'pervasive', indispensable and effective learning tool, we need to first understand the learning process, and where and how AI may actually add value to 21 Century classrooms and schools. It is pointless having a Formula 1 car without the experienced driver,  racing track, correct fuel and appropriate knowledge of how to effectively and efficiently comprehend and drive it.

This CPD experience will delve into the world of AI and 21 Century schools as we explore reality and potential of this often covert and hidden technology in classrooms.

EFT Tapping and Self-Care for the Whole-School Community

Picture
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), more commonly known as tapping, is an emerging,research-based intervention that has been found to be an effective stress and anxiety management tool for students and school personnel. EFT uses cognitive behavior therapy techniques (CBT), such as awareness building, imaginal exposure, reframing of interpretation, and systematic desensitization, while teaching the individual to self-stimulate protocol-identified acupoints. The use of EFT with children and adolescents is relatively new.  EFT can play a major part in helping children release fear, anxiety, trauma, and doubt in a matter of minutes. EFT often produces results a lot more quickly with children, as they don't have the same amount of emotional baggage as adults.

This CPD experience will explore in practical ways,  the application of EFT with students and teachers in schools and in society, and examine and apply the reality and potential of this intervention in bringing an ease to the dis-ease of our daily lives through real-time applications.

Nature-Based Solutions Education, Creative and Digital Clusters, and Education for Sustainable Development

Picture
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are defined by IUCN as “actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits”.
NbS are also solutions inspired and supported by nature and ecosystems. As opposed to purely technological solutions, NbS are cost-effective, sustainable, and  simultaneously provide environmental, social and economic benefits. Moreover NbS help build resilience to climate change.

This CPD experience will explore in practical everyday actions,  the application of NbS with students and teachers in schools, and examine and apply the reality and potential of NBS in bringing Digital and Green, Carbon and Silicon together in creative ways, through practical, creative projects and initiatives that will inspire Climate Action. #There Is No Planet B. #Agents of Change

Mindfulness and Game-Based Learning in Schools

Picture
Game-based learning refers to the borrowing of certain gaming principles and applying them to real-life settings to engage users (Trybus 2015), with a specific 'educational' goal in mind. The motivational psychology involved in mindful, game- based learning enables and empowers students to engage with educational materials in a meaningful, safe, playful and dynamic way, to reach a specific, sustainable goal or 'awareness'. This is not gamification, which is 'adding game mechanics into nongame environments, like a website, or online community'.

This CPD experience will explore in practical ways,  the application of mindfulness in, and with game-based learning in schools. This CPD will explore, examine and apply the reality and potential of these complimentary, self-awareness, sel-care and learning 'environments', to enable a deeper understanding of their Strengths, Challenges, Opportunities and Weaknesses in our various curricula and daily lives in classrooms.

Leadership and Formative Assessment Including Artificial Intelligence

Picture
Technology and artificial intelligence can vastly improve the types of assessments teachers use to guide students in their learning. Advancements in AI technology have led to new developments in the field, such as stealth assessments, that reduce some of the stress students may experience around assessments. This approach makes testing more ubiquitous and useful for teachers because the methods are woven into the fabric of learning and are invisible to students. Educational leaders work in increasingly complex schooling environments and there are calls for them to be skilled in their assessment practice (Park, 2018). Alongside pedagogy and curriculum, assessment of and for student learning communicates “dominant cultural categories and reinforce relationships of power in classrooms, schools, and societies” that leaders need to negotiate
(DeLuca et al.,
2019, p.2).

This CPD experience will explore in practical ways,  the application of AI in enhancing 'formative assessment' in schools. Moreover, this CPD will explore, examine and debate the reality of educational leadership and formative assessment in schools to enable a deeper understanding of their ever evolving  Strengths, Challenges, Opportunities and Weaknesses as educators engage with curricula in schools.
